Bayer's Weed Control Research Integrates PlantExplorer MAX for Advanced Digital Plant Phenotyping in Frankfurt

Bayer's Weed Control Research team in Frankfurt has successfully enhanced their digital plant phenotyping capabilities by integrating the PlantExplorer MAX into their research process. This state-of-the-art phenotyping system enables high-precision imaging and analysis of key plant health indicators, including photosynthesis efficiency, Chlorophyll index, Anthocyanin index, and detailed color imaging.


By utilizing the PlantExplorer MAX, Bayer can accurately assess the effects of various treatments on plant health through their sophisticated automated data analysis pipelines. This integration represents a significant advancement in digital plant phenotyping, driving innovation in weed control research and enhancing crop protection strategies.

In collaboration with system integrator WIWAM, we have integrated the PlantExplorer MAX FIELD at Wageningen University, creating a state-of-the-art imaging system for plant research.


System Features:

  • Large Imaging Area: The system is capable of imaging areas up to 80 x 80 centimeters, accommodating a wide range of plant sizes and configurations.
  • Z-Axis Installation: The camera is installed on a Z-axis, allowing it to automatically adjust to the correct height for each plant. This ensures optimal imaging conditions and accurate data collection.

We are proud to partner with PhenoTrait in China, a leading producer of plant phenotyping systems that include our advanced camera systems. We have been working toghetter for a decade now and they build dozens of phenotyping systems. One notable example of our collaboration is the integration of the PlantExplorer PRO FIELD into a gantry system designed by PhenoTrait.

Innovative Well Plate Imager

In collaboration with Lab Services, we have developed an easy-to-use well plate imager designed for precision and efficiency. This innovative system allows well plates to be stored in a plate hotel and effortlessly inserted into our camera system using a robotic arm.

  • Seamless Integration: The well plates can be automatically handled by a robot arm, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.
  • Advanced Imaging Capabilities: Our system can be equipped with a PSII camera, a hyperspectral camera, and a high-resolution RGB camera. This combination allows for high-resolution imaging of all 96 well plates, providing comprehensive and detailed data.

PhenoVation has delivered a PlantExplorer MAX FIELD and two RGB cameras to WPS. This setup includes a dark and light adaptation tunnel positioned in front of the PlantExplorer MAX FIELD.
